In the six months since Belgium became the second country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage, 139 gay couples have tied the knot.

The figure was released today by the Flemish LGBT group Holebi. It based its figure on the number of registered weddings up to September in six Belgian cities.

...About two-thirds of the couples were men.

...Gay couples now enjoy most of the same rights as heterosexual married partners, apart from those related to adoption -- meaning that in a lesbian couple the biological mother would remain legally a single parent.
