WISCONSIN GOVERNOR VETOES STATE DOMA: From the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel
Two days after the Legislature sent him the bill, Gov. Jim Doyle on Friday vetoed a measure to define marriage as strictly a union between a man and a woman, calling it redundant and unnecessary. "This bill is just another example of the Legislature focusing its time and energy on divisive, mean-spirited bills," Doyle said in a statement announcing his veto. Assembly Majority Leader Steven Foti (R-Oconomowoc) immediately promised that the Assembly would try to override Doyle's veto, perhaps as early as next week. more |
