SSM AND POLYGAMY, PART 2: Maggie Gallagher

The reporter describes the French as attempting to "break up" polygamous families by offering second and third wives their own apartments.

Of course it is not uncommon at all for polygamy to take place across multiple households.

Our assumption that the core of marriage is the common household is another ethnocentricity, or unexamined cultural assumption based on our own tradition.

Once you start deconstructing these cultural assumptions as illegitimate impositions on human freedom, I wonder how much of marriage will be left as a concept?
